Roland TD-25KV Review

PROS:

  • If you are recording songs at your home, you need to be able to control the sounds to the very best. You will make a lot of mistakes, even try to adjust it and record again, so you need a kit that will offer you that. Td-25kv allows you to do that, which is perfect for someone who has a small studio. Even so, the quality of sound is impressive. While playing, you will feel like you are playing a high-end instrument. If you like an acoustic feel, the VH-11 V-Hi-Hat is there to provide you just that. The module is also easy to operate, and you can freely select the genre you want to record. Flagship td-30 also is engineered with behavior modeling. The best part is that you can use your mesh heads to ensure that it does not create much noise and disturb others around you.
  • You can edit songs and customize it to your needs, which makes it easy for you to play any song. You can even play along with any Mp3 audio and record it. This feature makes it quite desirable for people and beginners who want to practice more. The three cymbals are advanced as compared to other drum kits having two cymbals to play with. The size of cymbals and pads is also bigger, about 2-3 inches, as compared to others. That may not be much of a difference, but it is more beneficial for someone who likes to play live. Mesh heads allow for a softer and quieter sound, which makes it desirable for people playing in their homes. The noise and sound are greatly reduced so that you will disturb the neighbors and play with ease.

CONS:

  • Overall, the features and pros make it a desirable drum kit set to play with. The one and only disadvantage that most drummers might feel is the price tag. It retails for around $4000, which is a hefty price, especially for beginners. Now, for the newbie drummers, you might feel it is way too costly, as you cannot afford it. With respect to the price, it is more suitable for professional drummers. You might even consider it a one-time investment and may even buy it thinking it will last for a long time, but still, it will be quite expensive. There are plenty fo cheaper alternatives in the market, and even within the same brand, you can get much better options. Here’s you can find some examples of cheaper electronic drums.
  • Another disadvantage this drum kit has is that you will have to purchase kick pedal and hi-hat stand separately as both are not included. This might be unsuitable for most, as it is difficult to find them all in one place, and will also increase the overall cost of your Roland kit.
  • Due to its aluminum stands, it is also a little hefty as compared to other brands. It is not as desirable for transport as you cannot drag along with you wherever you go. So, that is another con worth considering for musicians.

How to use it perfectly?

Now, there are multiple ways of how you can use this electronic drum to your purpose. It depends on your level of expertise, the location you will play, and how much use it will be.  Based on that, you will either be playing it at your home, at a studio or a live concert. Let us see how it functions in all these scenarios:

At-home practice

When you take a look at its features, you will see that it has additional cymbals, mesh heads to reduce noise ad also a line t connect with your headphones. All these features are included in Td-25kv, which makes it reasonable enough for solo practice and to polish your drumming skills continuously.  But, if you consider the price, you will logically think that it is a waste of price ad money to buy such a professional drum kit only to play at home.

If you are a newbie, you might not want to straight away purchase such an expensive set. It makes sense to buy something cheaper which you can play, and then maybe, later on, invest in it. The purpose will not justify the actual potential of this electronic drum set. So, unless you want to feel like a professional while playing a drum set, or want to invest in one and for all, this Roland model is not the one for you. There are plenty of good kits in half the price that you can purchase just for practicing.

Recording at studio

Now you can potentially use it to record your songs at home or studio, provided you can make a few amends. Like, you can connect the output to a computer. Each time you play, software on the computer is going to record it, which you can after adding to any song that you want to. With a USB port, you can easily connect it to your computer. By the module that is present in this model, you can modify your sounds, even control frequencies and add your song into it. When you record it, you can save your play along and the actual song. Other drum kits do not allow that, so this is a good add-on.

Playing live

When you are playing live, you are entirely using the potential of Roland TD-25. The bigger size of snare pads and cymbals allow for you to hit it with energy. The big dimension makes sure that you hit your stick right on the spot even if you are not playing it with perfection. All of the pieces are set up on the aluminum stand, which makes it more sturdy for playing. Since it is so heavy, it might be difficult for you to pack it and take it along with you on tour. This is a big disadvantage for musicians. The vh-11 v-hi-hat sets on a hi-hat stand, rather than being attached directly.

The Roland TD 25kv gives off different sounds when you hit it on two different places in the head or rim, and bow or edges.

Is the price justified?

When it comes to the price tag of Roland TD 25, many musicians might not be able to purchase it. Keep in mind you have to buy the kick pedal separately as well. Out of the many electronic drum sets, it takes leads due to many of its features ad most importantly, its flagship td-30. When it comes to the price tag, and asking yourself is it worth it, you have to keep in mind its purpose. For example, if you want to purchase it just for the asked of practicing at home, then no. There are many cheaper alternatives that you can buy. Similarly, it might sound better for live or concerts, but again it is quite heavy to move around with you, which makes it difficult for you to travel with.

The only way it sounds a bit justified is to use it for recordings. One unique feature in this electronic drum set is that it allows you to record your play-along session with the original song, which makes it easy for you to, later on, edit it. For that, you might purchase it. But the features are quite worth it. It also comes with additional cymbals, which is a benefit. You can also use that to play while you are in a concert.

Do you need a speaker?

As for every drum set you can play it alone without any speaker, through headphones, in-ear monitors or an amp.
