What do people think about it?

What better place to get reviews about a product than someone who has been using it for a long time? Like every other product, KTMP1 has its fair share of negative as well as positive reviews.

The majority of the owners were highly pleased with this product. The reviews centered around two main aspects of KTMP1: a) price and b) customizability. Owners were more than satisfied with both of these attributes. According to more than one buyer, considering the low price point, this product is a godsend. Others also praised the easy to use control system and settings that even a beginner could quickly grasp and set.

Another good thing about this product is that with the significant addition of 2-3 products. This percussion pad can be changed into a full drum kit, without ever reaching the same price point as one. The varying range of sounds available makes this pad ideal as both a standalone pad, as well as an addition to an acoustic kit.

The negative reviews, on the contrary, were focused mainly on the lack of memory settings. Users were quite disappointed that they couldn’t save or upload their sounds and tunes. According to them, if they liked a sensitivity and sound setting, they practically had to mimic it down to the T for the next time they played it as there was no way to save that particular setting. This was an undue hassle.

Others claim that the toms sounded way too digital. Furthermore, some people also had complaints with the USB-USB connectivity feature, claiming that it doesn’t work and they ultimately have to end up using a MIDI converter.

KAT KTMP1 Pad Add Ons

As mentioned above, the KTMP1 electronic pad has been manufactured in such a way by KAT Percussions that it has two available inputs for additional add-ons.

Not only would these additions make it one of the smallest drumming kits, but they would also add better sound range to the pad whilst making it the cheapest, most compact, and the most portable electronic drum kit.

However, it would be unfair to compare it to the real thing as there are some stark differences. Despite those differences, the addition of extras would broaden the percussion sounds distinctively and make the pad more efficient for use during gigs or recordings.

The following two additions that can be made to KTMP1 for it to fully function as an electronic drum kit are:

KT-HC1 Hi-Hat Controller

The KT-HC1 hi-hat controller was made specially as an add-on for the KTMP1 percussion pad—no wonder why it increases the sound quality of the KTMP1 so well. KT-HC1 hi-hat controller provides a sturdy hold on the sounds with options like open, closed, and foot closed sound control.

The hi-hat controller comes with a velcro strap to prevent your foot from slipping and hindering your flow. A plus point of the  KT-HC1 hi-hat controller is that it comes with a 1m long cable, which can be alternatively used with other pads with a jack as well.

KT-HC1 hi-hat controller has a sleek modern, black colored design with a KAT branded pedalboard that gives it an overlook pleasing look, adding to the aesthetic of the pad.

KT-KP1 Bass Drum Trigger

The next product that was designed specifically for the KAT KTMP1 Percussion Pad is the KT-KP1 bass drum trigger. It gives the kit more distinct bassy sounds whilst also increasing its sound triggering capability. Like its parent, KAT KTMP1, KT-KP1 bass drum trigger compact and easily portable.

It has a unique and different downward trigger design. The trigger can be hit on with a tennis ball beater that comes in the box. This particular feature of the KT-KP1 bass drum trigger takes time for some users to get used to.

Just like our previous add on, this one also comes with a velcro attachment that prevents it from slipping. Not only that, but it also comes with a 1-meter long wire, that according to KAT Percussions website, can be used with any piezo input trigger interfaces and drum models with a piezo trigger input.

On the downside, the KT-KP1 bass drum trigger doesn’t pick up rapid kicks and beats.

It is also important to remember that to use KT-KP1 bass drum triggers as an add on with your KTMP1 Electronic Drum and Percussion Pad, you would need to buy a separate bass drum pedal.

Final Thoughts

For this review, not only have we read and analyzed reviews for this product but have also gotten our hands on it to see for ourselves what the hype is about. Safe to say, the hype is real! KAT KTMP1 Electronic Drum and Percussion Pad Sound Module is not a professional gear tool, and it shouldn’t be treated as such.

It is a cheap, compact, and affordable alternative to expensive electronic drumming kits. It has excellent features that set it apart from the crowd, as we have discussed above. It has four highly-responsive pads, each of which has a customizable sensitivity and a great range of sounds to choose from. The fact that you can play this using both your hands or sticks makes it a more efficient and versatile product.

A memory backup would’ve been a nice addition and would’ve completed this percussion pad.

The add-ons for this product are designed to increase the overall sound range and quality of the KTMP1. These products are also very versatile. This means that they can work with other percussion pads or drum modules with either the same inputs or through a jack. Compared to competitor additions, like those of Yamaha, these are highly affordable while providing the same sound boost.

If you’re looking to add an extra range of sounds to your acoustic drums, this is the product for you. We also recommend it for beginners that are just starting to get their hands on drumming. Overall, KTMP1 is an ideal product within its price range.
