The large-sized drums are the main attractive and noticeable component of the Alesis crimson ii electronic drum kit. It comes with super large drums, especially the snare and dual-zone floor tom. The diameter of the double-braced snare is a tremendous 12 inches, which makes it way bigger than the snare of Roland and Yamaha – the biggest and slightly expensive competitors. You can perform from fully open to fully closed, in a range of clutch positions. The hi-hat cymbal is a 12-inch pad, positioned on the drum rack. The cymbal pad sits on a cymbal arm that could be positioned to match your setup to the fullest. Each cymbal rests onto its stand, and a cymbal nut is fastened in place. There is some motion as you hit every pad, and depending on your choice, you can loosen or tighten the nut.

With the Crimson ii Electronic Drum Kit, you get two crash cymbals and a ride cymbal. Each crash cymbal is 12-inches in diameter and can perform the choke effects, while the ride cymbal is 14-inches in diameter. Additionally, the electronic drum set is placed on a bright rack with a sleek design and connecting poles. The toms are positioned onto the rack and for playability, they can be positioned.

And now if we talk about the snare, Alesis Crimson ii electronic drum module has done wonders! The snare is a huge 12-inch shell. We know that this a very high weight to support. That is why Alesis Crimson ii comes with a separate double-braced snare stand. This double-braced snare stand is of great quality and is extremely vigorous. Having a separate stand of this kind makes the playing experience more amusing.

The Alesis crimson ii electronic drum module offers many special features in the department of sound. It offers a large variety of sounds, nearly 671 sounds in total, including SFX, percussion, standard acoustic drum sets, and electronic acoustic drum sets. Moreover, you have the option of storing 20 drum kits of your creation.

The procedure for storing kits is quite effortless. Just select a sound you would like to use, assign the sound to the pad, cymbal, or pedal, make adjustments like changing the pitch or adding effects, store it to any of the empty slots, and you are done!

It features a USB port, through which you can load samples of drums or cymbals over to a module. With the help of this, you will be able to make adjustments and store those samples to your custom kit presets.

Furthermore, if you like to use MIDI and virtual instruments, then the crimson ii drum module has definitely something interesting for you. You can attach the crimson ii module to any Computer or specifically MAC, and use it in combination with any regular MIDI Controller.

The procedure of installation of the WAV Samples is extremely easy. Through the USB Port, you can easily input your Wav Samples. You can take advantage of this feature by testing your own WAV Samples for flexibility.

Does it play well?

Of course, it does! We were amazed when we tried this electronic drum kit. The mesh heads give you a chance to personalize, channel the inner drummer in you, and be creative. The only thing we found odd was the cymbals. As this set is particularly for beginners, the cymbals are made of rubber, not metal. So, banging on them does not feel the same. But that does not mean that the sound they are producing is bad – it is perfect! We are just talking about the “feel”. Additionally, it provides a lot of flexibility. You can also choke the crash, and adjust the sensitivity of the rim. Overall, the playing experience is pleasant and accomodating.

Review

Alesis made the Crimson 2 Kit by keeping in mind the experienced drummers all over the world. It offers a lot of advanced features at a very less price, as compared to Roland and Yamaha – the competitors. No one else is offering fully-mesh and worked sets at this price nowadays.

Crimson ii kit has a built-in set of sounds that can keep the drummers going for hours with a perfect feel and expression. This drum set has clearly everything you need. If you are bored with the built-in sounds, you can even add your own custom samples.

While doing our research, we heard many negative reviews too, to be honest. But you should not base your entire opinion just from the negative reviews, many people loved it too. The first issue that was repeatedly reported was the quality of cymbals. So, if you are planning to buy this drum set, consider replacing the cymbals with any other brand to produce the best sound possible.

The second mentioned problem was the settings of the module. As the module is relatively new, issues are common. Upon purchasing and installing the drum set you may need to configure and change the module’s settings. Let’s just hope that the company figures out what to do about it.

You can modify settings like the sensitivity to thresholds and speeds as you need them. That is why this drum set is not the best option for total beginners. Before you decide to buy this instrument, it would be better you have some experience. A new drum set like this would be hard to enjoy if you don’t have the experience required.
